May Nihongo Night – Drug Abuse

The recent opiate epidemic in the US has affected Connecticut as well. Since 2012 over 5000 people died in Connecticut of an accidental opiate overdose. However, it is not well known that many of these deaths resulted from the combination of opiates and other drugs plus alcohol. While opiate addiction has been a major concern in recent years, drug and alcohol abuse have been with us since colonial times. We will present an overview of commonly abused drugs in lay terms so that the audience will have basic knowledge of different substances of abuse. The presentation will be very informal and mostly, focus on an exchange of questions and answers.

It’s not a requirement, but we will appreciate if you can bring a dish or sweets to share.
